Remote machine automation

Hello,

I'm in the process of automating some tests to be performed on a different machine (remotely) under Linux Ubuntu debian. After great difficulty, and altering proxy settings etc, I'm finally able to get Sahi to open the browser on the remote machine, but even though the functions within the scripts are being called, NOTHING happens. I sometimes get no error log produced, or the odd error like: The parameter passed to _getText or _click etc... was not found on the browser.

But sometimes I eventually end up getting the error messages like "......did not complete in 900 seconds."

The odd thing is these same scripts completely work and pass on my local machine.

Can someone point me in the right direction to start fixing this?

  • Hi TSheeley

pls check if you can open the Sahi Controller on the remote machine
then check http://sahi.example.com/_s_/dyn/SSLManager for the certificates

    Thats it for now..

    Regards
    Wormi
  • Hi Wormi,

So far, I have NOT been able to open the Sahi Controller on the remote machine. This is because the remote machine is a touch-screen system. There is no way for me to "double click" on the page to start the controller. I will have a look at SSLManager and see if it's a certificates problem.

    Thanks,

    TSheeley
  • Hi TSheeley,

    Are you using Sahi OS?

Kindly make sure that Sahi is running on both the machines.

If you are using Sahi Pro Version then kindly follow the below steps:

To run .suite file on different machine remotely you will have to mention the machine name(remote machine name) in drun.bat by navigating to <sahi-home>/userdata/bin/drun.bat

    Instead of this:

    SET NODES=localhost:9999,othermachine:9999

    Restart Sahi.

The logs will be available on your machine.(Click logs on the Dashboard).

Also, if you are using Sahi Pro then kindly try running the suite file on the remote machine which is not an touch-screen system and check if it works fine.

  • As far as I know ther should be a way to change the key-combinations to open the controller... but I can't find the related post right now.. maybe Sumitra knows more...
  • Hi Sumitra,

Yes, we are using Sahi OS. I have Sahi running on both machines. Maybe it's in the way I am trying to do things? We are working in a Linux environment. I have a local Linux machine which I can run my scripts on and everything is fine. The remote machine (Linux as well) is one I login to from my local machine via :

SSH root@<machineIPAddress>. The scripts are copied over, and then ran from there.

It is a touch screen system with an NFS -Network File System. No mouse or keyboard. After lots of attempts to get the proxy etc just right, I am able to get Sahi to open Firefox on our home page using _navigateTo"......" . After this, Sahi attempts to execute some functions and just times out. I've used the following in each function to show me if it is being executed:

    function printAnyThroughJava(s){
    Packages.java.lang.System.out.println("I'm in the <function name> function");
    }

This works, but NOTHING in the function is ever executed. Sahi either times out, or sometimes produces the odd error like: The parameter passed to _getText or _click etc... was not found on the browser.

Are you saying that I won't be able to do this without the Sahi Pro version? There was a tester here previously that was able to do this, but none of his code has been left here. Please help?
  • Wormi,

As I said, It is a touch screen system with No mouse or keyboard. I'm not sure your suggestion will help. Thanks for trying anyway. I would love to have the Sahi controller interrogate the page from the touch screen. I think that might show what the problem might be. Also, can ANYONE tell me how well Sahi works with IFrames? We have two of them with feeds from external sites.

    Hi TSheeley,

This should possible through the OS version too.

If your website uses https, I think Wormi's answer is correct. Check if the certificate for sahi.example.com has been accepted on the remote machine.
In fact you could check if you are able to run any of the demo test cases in sahi/userdata/scripts/demo folder against http://sahi.co.in/demo/

    Regards,
    Narayan
  • Hello Narayan,

Thanks for responding. Our site does NOT use https. I can run the demo test cases against http://sahi.co.in/demo/

So it would appear that Sahi does not understand our page once it is displayed on the touchscreen - it works locally.

Do you know of any problems with CodeIgniter? It shouldn't make any difference as it works locally, but I'm trying to narrow down what the problem might be.

    Thanks once again,

    TSheeley
  • Hello Narayan, - Anybody?

Do you know of any problems with Sahi and the CodeIgniter framework?
  • Well my thought would be that the touchscreen must be using a different javascript engine to your local machine?

Can you load things like firebug on the touchscreen to see any errors. Also you should be able to change the "touch" event to trigger click, so double touch can be used to load the controller.
  • Latest update is that I now "SOMETIMES" get an error which reads:

WARNING: Should not have come here: RhinoRuntime.eval: _scriptPath()
  • AbePetrillo,

As far as I'm aware, these engines should be the same. They both are using the same JRE. I'll double check to make sure. Would you be able to explain how I can "change the "touch" event to trigger click"? I "believe" that is all that happens anyway, but "double-click" may have been disabled, as it's not needed for any of the touchscreen functionality,

    Thanks,

    TSheeley
  • And now the latest error:

    Window/Domain not found: popupNameFromStep=; derivedName=; windowName=; windowTitle=; wasOpened=0; domain=feeds.selectivemedia.com

This is one of the feeds into our IFrames. Could it be that sahi does not believe the page is 'fully' loaded because of this?

From what I can see, Sahi does NOT think the page has completely loaded and won't perform and action until it does.

    :-(

I really need help with this.
