Problem connecting to 32-bit Excel 2010

I'm trying to connect to an Excel 2010 spreadsheet (.xlsx) on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (Sahi 2011-07-19). When I run the script, I get a 'Data source name not found and no default driver specified' error.

Per the 'Working with Excel Sheets' page, I tried to install the 64-bit Access Database Engine 2010, but since I have 32-bit Office it wouldn't let me. So, I installed the 32-bit drivers.

I searched the forum and saw where a user said that 64-bit Java doesn't work with ODBC and to uninstall/replace with the 32-bit version. I did this (and rebooted), but then Sahi wouldn't launch (couldn't find Java from the brief error I saw). I reinstalled 64-bit Java (keeping 32-bit), was able to launch Sahi, but got the same error when I ran the script.

When I view the 64-bit version of the ODBC Data Source Administrator in Windows and try to configure Excel, I get 2 errors:

Title: Microsoft ODBC Administrator
"The setup routines for the Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls, *.xlsx, *.xlsm, *xlsb) ODBC driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver. [ OK ]"

Title: Driver's ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed
"Errors Found: The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application [ OK ]"

No such problem viewing the 32-bit ODBC administrator.

What's going on here? Can I point Sahi to the 32-bit Java and use the 32-bit ODBC drivers?

Thanks

  • Hi KeithM,

    Kindly check this url:

  • Sorry for the delay in replying. That's one of the threads I found when searching the forum prior to my original post.

Since another person and myself have not been able to make this work in our environments, we have gone with the CSV solution of importing data into the test scripts.

    Thanks
  • hi there -

this is quite an issue and 1 that most of the guys seem to have to work around -
which is still not the ideal solution to this.
The issue stops a sahi user from connecting to something as simple as a excel document( widely used for test case creation and test-data housing, as well as a simple access database.

Sumitra, have you guys looked into this further?
is there a proper solution from Sahi dev?
  • Hey KeithM,
if you are still facing the same issue, they you should install Java 32bit if your machine is 32bit version, it will work surely.

Thanks for the reply, but this is no longer a concern as we have moved to using Visula Studio C# 2010, WatiN, and NUnit (mainly to take advantage of our in-house C# developers).
