When I used Sahi for the first time, the first word I said "Wow!"....
3 years back I had my first encounter with Sahi and slowly I fallen in Love with this tool. I came to know about Sahi through my friend who was working in the same company where Sahi has been developed, till that time I hadn't used any other open source Web automation tool, although I had worked on Rational Robot.
I had just joined a new company at that time and they were working on automating some part of the overall testing, mainly feature-regression. But client was not ready to pay for any test automation tool and we had no option but to look for some open source tool. So we started evaluating some of these tools, Sahi was one of them and I opted to evaluate this, and I suddenly found that this is best suited for us, reasons:
1) First thing I liked about Sahi is environment setup; I mean you don't need anything other than JDK and a text editor, that's it!
2) It didn't take much time for me to learn due to limited and very very simple APIs!
3) Most important feature or I would say the benefit of using Sahi is that it supports JavaScript and no need to say how powerful JavaScript is. If there was no support of JS I would have instantly dropped the idea of using Sahi because I needed the language features say iteration, condition checking in the tool and not just static recording.
4) We can integrate Sahi scripts with ANT. I was about to do this but couldn’t because I left the company.
5) I have just started using Sahi to automate more complex Web application and till now Sahi has done each and everything I wanted. I really want to go into technical details of how easy it is to capture or recognize any unit of the web page using Sahi, how easily, using JavaScript feature, we can cerate our own customized verification points, how effective assertions are and so on, but I shouldn’t as it would be a long list.
Now, whatever I mentioned above is tip of iceberg and there are number of other features which I am trying to explore with Sahi. I have started using Sahi with a more complex web application and I am absolutely sure that Sahi will pass the litmus test.
Last but not lease, the amount of support we get from Mr. Narayan is tremendous and I wonder how he has been able to do! Thanks a lot Mr. Narayan for Sahi, it's really Sahi!
